    Friends of South Carolina!

Palmetto Liberty PAC just released the 2011 South Carolina House and Senate score cards! You can see them at http://www.palmettoliberty.com/voting-records.

Palmetto Liberty PAC is working to make South Carolina the most free state in the nation.
What does it mean to be the most free state in the nation? It means having both the lowest taxes in the nation and the safest streets. It means having access to quality through competition and consumer choice in health care and education. It means politicians act like public servants, not central planners. It means our universities teach people to think. It means our citizens own property and bear arms without fear that anyone will infringe on their right to either.

In order to have the most free state in the nation we must balance power between the three branches of state government so that no branch, alone or together with other branches, has more power than the people.

We must protect the free market from the interference of preferences that are handed out to the well connected by government bodies.

We can never hope to control our own destiny as a state when 40% of our state budget is paid through the federal government. Not only does it bind our state’s financial destiny to the whims of federal spending, it also ties our hands with the strings the come attached to that money. We must wean the state government from its habitual dependency on “federal” dollars.

The purpose of this voting analysis is to identify those who oppose these ideas with their votes.
No longer can we elect any old Republican to the General Assembly. Their rhetoric and publicity may be conservative, but too many of these Republicans are voting to sustain a liberal agenda. It shows all too clearly in their record.

Most of the votes shown on the score card are votes that we lost. Now we can identify the Legislators that caused us to lose these votes. These Legislators are the ones who need to be replaced if we are to achieve the vision of having the most free state in the nation.

Thomas Jefferson letter to John Taylor
    May 28, 1816

Calvin Coolidge Foundations of the Republic At Memorial Continental Hall

    My Thoughts On Amazon

by Published on 04-28-2011 08:29 AM
So Amazon is now going to pack up, move on and take 1,200 new jobs with them. Although I am disappointed that we will not gain those new jobs I am pleased that our SC Legislatures sent a message that it is no longer business as usual in SC. The taxpayers of this state deserve better, why should we foot the bill of a huge corporation to move to SC, set up shop, and have a distinct advantage over local companies who are already here. Those who already invested their own money to compete in a free market without a special incentive deal from our lawmakers.
Critics of ours will say if we don't cut a deal, some other state will, and we will lose those jobs to them. I put that in the same category as selling your soul for temporary gratification. While we can and should look for ways to lure new business's, we need to create an environment that is fair and encourages the Free Market principles that this country was founded on. We need tax reform that does not create loopholes that give those who can afford it, a distinct advantage. I for one am tired of these special interest deals that are being made by those who can afford lobbyist while others who are playing by the rules have to settle for crumbs.

Historical Feature: Christmas in Early America

    Published on 12-22-2010 08:14 AM
In America's early years, the celebration of Christmas was a subject of heated debate among Christians, and the lines between the opposing views were drawn largely according to church affiliation. Those from the High Church (e.g., Anglicans, Catholics, Episcopalians, etc., which practiced a more formal tradition of worship), tended to support Christmas celebrations, while those from the Low Church (e.g., Congregationalists, Baptists, Quakers, etc., which practiced a more informal mode of worship), tended to oppose that celebration.

The views of the two sides had largely been shaped by their own history in Europe. For example, the High Church, which had been the church of Europe for centuries before the first colonists came to America, celebrated Christmas. However, those from the Low Church had been persecuted by the High Church, particularly by the Catholic and Anglican Church, so the Low Church saw no reason that they should copy the festival of those that had so harshly persecuted them.

Interestingly, when European colonists came to America, those affiliated with the High Churches tended to settle in southern colonies such as Virginia, Maryland, and Carolina, while colonists from the Low Churches more frequently settled in northern colonies such as Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
